In the 19th century, the French region of Brittany's town of Quimper was well established in their production of faience pottery. The Porquier company was developed from passion and appreciation of the local traditions, folklore, and artisanship. This plate celebrates daily life experienced in the town as well as the craftsperson who hand-painted every detail on this surface. With this knowledge, the boy, girl, and dog become more meaningful than simply a sweet scene. Combining painting, sculpture, and cultural history into one beautiful plate!

An antique plate, Porquier Quimper. French, late 19th century. Scalloped edge with green, white and yellow border and a blue/white crest at center top. In the center of the plate two children (one boy and one girl) are seated together holding toys. Behind them sits a loyal dog.

Collector's Notes:

Less than expected wear for age, there are worn areas around the rim, one chip on the left edge of the plate and two small chips at the top right edge (see photos). There is a substantial area of thick paste on verso, likely from a previous plate hanger or hook.

Size: 9 1/4” diameter; 3/4” height
